Rachel Alexandra won the 134th running of the Preakness Stakes, becoming the first filly to win the second leg of The Triple crown since 1924.

The female horse took the early lead and held on at the end of the 1 3/16 miles at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

Calvin Borel, who rode Mine That Bird in the Kentucky Derby, switched to Rachel Alexandra and guided her to a sixth straight victory.

Rachel Alexandra beat Mine That Bird, ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith, by a length. Musket Man finished third.

She paid $5.60, $4.60 and $3.60.
Mine That Bird paid $6.60 and $4.80
Musket Man returned $5 on a show bet.

She the real thing, a champion  "super-filly" in the Ruffian mold. A big, long, tall, racer that like's to run from the front and away from the field. I love watching her and I hope she can enjoy something Ruffian could not...a long life and career with many happy years both on and off the track.

I want to see this mare run against Zenyatta, they both have unspeakable talent. The only thing is would be the ground they run on, Rachel does so much better on dirt and Zenyatta excels on turf. Either way, they are both amazing! And Rachel Alexandra ran a stellar race, she kept such a nice pace throughout the whole race and Calvin did a great job riding her too. He is one heck of a jockey

@Starbuc1 I see Rachel in about 3 years, happily munching on a little grass in her paddock, and with a little colt with her coloring playing by her side. He whinnies as if to say, "one day, Mama, I am going to run just like you and make you proud..

I've got to say I'm impressed with Big Drama. He stayed with her for 8 1/2 f, and only fell back 7 lengths. As compared to Da' Tarra's last place in the Woodward. Munnings was also impressive in the Haskell at 7 lengths back got 3rd. It's pretty obvious that the 3yo's this year are much better than the older horses, except for Macho again, Well Armed, Zenyatta.

Now, that he's won the Arc, I doubt, it. And after what happened to poor George Washington, I understand many Europeans are worried about the artificial track.

I hope that Sea the Stars (looking like a superstar) wins the Arc then takes on Rachel (she's just great) in the BC, but I fear it won't happen.
