Cranes has to be my all-time favorite band (please don't call them "The" Cranes).
They Hail from Portsmouth, England and take their name from the huge dock cranes which dominate the horizon. Although originally formed in the 80's they met with their greatest successes in the 90's. The band did have a reputation for tech/equipment problems at their shows, and I've witnessed it as well, but they never failed to hold the crowd in awe. A GREAT band to see live!

The best show for me was their performance at the 9:30 club in Washington D.C. (what a great venue!) during their tour in 1993 to promote the "Forever" CD, Jim, Alison and the boys were at their peak (no equipment failures either!).

Hope you enjoy these posts (re-posts), and keep buying their CD's (residuals are a wonderful thing!) They gave their best, I'd love to see them get a little back for their efforts!

  • Cool track - got a play on BBC Radio 2 yesterday!

  • Really!? Cool! Sounds like someone there has their head on straight! : ) Radio is completely dead here in the states, I'm actually reduced to listening to a HIGH SCHOOL radio station (when radio is all I've got, sometimes it's not bad). Even the university stations here have been nothing but crap for years! Sigh : (

  • Here's a question for you all! If none of you had ever seen this video and had to imagine what the video would look like or what comes to mind everytime you would hear this song?

For some reason I think of marching through a desert on foot somewhere in Mexico hoping to reach my destination! Yeah I know I'm definitely a weirdo!

  • Hey, not weird at all blueblade, Certainly I can at least hear or envision the heat of the beating sun in that reeling guitar part, and an urgency in that trodding pace of the baseline! Afterall, I'm part of the "fantasia" generation too, and a long time classic music listener, so I've had "music videos" dancing in my head well before there was any MTV. (I don't THINK I'm too weird, ) thanks for sharing! : )

  • any music videos from future songs?

  • Not aware of anything post '97 as far as vids go. There may be a fan vid nabbed from one of their shows floating around out there, but that'd be about it.

  • I'm from Maryland, and the 9:30 Club was host to several of my favorite shows. So jealous I was too young to see Cranes; that must have been AMAZING! This song brings back memories of when the term "alternative music" actually meant something.

  • Kinda reminds me of My Bloody Valentine.
