Sundial in the Shade

I started writing songs over the summer...and actually I started really playing the piano this summer too...so I am still experimenting and figuring things out along the way. This is one of the first songs I wrote and, being the nerdy person I am, I was inspired by Benjamin Franklin's quote: "Waste not your talents, for what good is a sundial in the shade?" Enjoy and please tell me what you think! Good or bad...

oh...and did I mention I recorded this before my sustain pedal came in the mail? Yeah.

Here are the lyrics:
It's not often I remember my dreams
But last night was different I guess
Because I woke up to weep
I cried for your safe return
From a land far away
I wanted to go with you
But you told me to stay

The rain on my window
Made storms in my dreams
That kept me from speaking softly
So I yelled quite loudly

After a moment or two
When you did not respond
I realized I was wide awake
And singing this sad song
I felt rather foolish for thinking it was real
And slowly fell back to sleep
Humming this strange tune
