Harvest Weekends, September, 2012
Old World Wisconsin rolls up its sleeves to harvest crops, plow fields, chop wood, preserve fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and more.
Fall is the time to begin the work of the harvest and prepare for winter. Join us for a different themed experience each of the five weekends in September. The first is "Labor and Libations" (9/1-9/2)--where you may try some of the jobs performed by people on farms and in small towns in the 1800s. Learn a bit about beverages the working man (and woman) enjoyed as well. Picking your produce and preserving it without refrigeration is the focus of "Produce and Preserves," (9/8-9/9). Wood stoves will be fired up for "Cookies and Kuchen" (9/15-9/16); Christmas baking often began in the fall, as some cookies needed time to develop their flavors and special characteristics. "In a Pickle" (9/22-9/23) will show you the many surprising things you can pickle besides a cucumber. And wrapping up these special weekends, enjoy "A Walk in the Woods" (9/29-9/30)--savor nature's fullness as we explore the areas between our farmsteads.
Visit Old World Wisconsin's 19th century crossroads village plus 10 ethnic farmsteads and gardens spread over 600 acres.
Experience immigrant life at the Midwest's premium outdoor museum of living history, Old World Wisconsin. Between Madison and Milwaukee, just outside Eagle off highway 67.
