Undead Knights Gameplay Video for PSP

October 9, 2008 - Undead Knights has a simple, easy to communicate hook. In the game, you turn enemies into zombies and have them fight for you. Interested? We got a chance to sit down with Kohei Shibata, producer on the game, for a few more details. The game wasn't present at the meeting or a the show, but we did get to see a short CG trailer showing the protagonist turning what appeared to be some type of medieval knight into a zombie.

As players turn their foes into friends, they'll also get the ability to control them to some degree with commands like "throw" and "charge." For breaking into castles and other structures, it's possible to gather up enough zombies to form zombie ladders or have them operate a battering ram. We were told that turning zombies to your cause is based on skill, though since the game wasn't present it was difficult to discern what this meant.

The game was described to us as primarily an action game, so aside from the basic commands it doesn't sound like there'll be many tactical options for zombie control. Not that there really need to be any, or could be any for that matter. They're zombies after all. Depending on the type of enemy you turn undead, they'll retain their powers. So archers will be turned into zombie archers and if you turn a large, powerful foe into a zombie they'll still be just as large and powerful after the switch. If the trailer is any indication of how the game will look, it appears that it'll be fairly gory.

Also in the game will be a multiplayer option for up to four people. Options for cooperative and competitive play exist, though it sounds like the multiplayer will be entirely separate from single player, meaning you can't play the story through cooperatively; it's just arenas. Still, the thought of sending waves of zombies after an opponent is interesting, but for now we'll have to wait and see how things turn out.

Undead Knights is currently scheduled to ship in the second half of 2009.
