Sunderland UK based band Kenickie on their final tour before splitting up, in 1998. Part 1 of 2. Produced and directed by Ron Branscombe. Voice-over by Paula Marshall. Copyright in the original music, lyrics & performance belongs to the artists. Music video clips inserted belong to EMI, used in the original programme with permission. Look out for a brief appearance by UK music radio legend John Peel.

  • cool to see this is still here, I had a video tape of this and loads of TV appearences and promos and I discovered today it's knackered! This programme had China Drum on it too, was a North East music special, I forget the name.

  • @ThreeShitsToTheWind: The programme was called 'Check One' and the full version is available to view on our company web site in the documentaries section. Two videos of China Drum (aka The Drum) are here on our YouTube Channel.

  • FWIW, I didn't know the end was near until the camera crew for this programme approached me outside the LA2. My bit ended up on the cutting room floor, but I know that I was wittier and more erudite than Adam Hepton.

  • Erudite maybe, but you didn't sing!

  • emmy kate's my favourite! she's so sweet and lovely. xxx

  • There was a tear in my eye already but when John Peel popped up... *sniff*

    PUNKA!

  • I have no memory of this being on tv, a nice but sad watch, thanks.

No band splitting up hurt as much as Kenickie, no where near.

  • Me too !

  • Many thanks for the upload. Have always had a soft spot for Kenickie.. Still love you Lauren... :-).

  • My favourite band of all time.

  • This is true. I have my dignity. ;)

  • Thanks so much for uploading this - I taped it off ITV when it was shown and my rather less impressive copy of it can be seen floating around on youtube, complete with colour drops, squiggly bits of tape and other general poor quality. Such a sad thing to watch but such a great thing to watch too.
