"The Girl Who Overcame Time... and the Boy Who Was Just Overcome"

15 year-old Kagome Higurashi is dragged down the sealed well at her family shrine, only to find herself transported back to feudal Japan. There she meets InuYasha, Kaede and the centipede mononoke, Mistress Centipede.

The first season of the anime series InuYasha aired in Japan on Animax from October 16, 2000 through May 21, 2001. Based on the manga series of the same title by Rumiko Takahashi, the episodes were produced by Sunrise and directed by Masashi Ikeda. The series follows a high school girl, Kagome Higurashi who travels back in time to the Sengoku period of Japan where she meets a half-demon named InuYasha and learns that she is the reincarnation of a powerful priestess named Kikyo. Joined by a lecherous monk, a young fox demon, a demon slayer, and a demon cat, the group seeks to find the fragments of the shattered Jewel of Four Souls, a powerful jewel that had been hidden inside Kagome's body, and keep the shards from being used for evil, including the evil half-demon Naraku who slew Kikyo fifty years before Kagome's arrival. The first season introduces the central characters and shows the group gathering together.

The anime is licensed for release in North America by Viz Media. The English dub of the first season was broadcast on Cartoon Network as part of its Adult Swim programming block from August 31, 2002 through January 21, 2003. The first season was released on nine DVD compilations by Viz Media. A full box set containing all twenty-seven episodes was released on September 7, 2004.

Three pieces of theme music are used for the episodes; one opening theme and two closing themes. The Japanese opening theme is "Change the World" by V6, used for the first twenty-seven episodes. The two closing themes are "My Will" by Japanese girl group Dream and Do As Infinity's "Fukai Mori" (深い森, Deep Forest), used for the first twenty and remaining seven episodes respectively.

  • Inuyasha is one of the greatest Animes. Many say it is overrated but i think Inuyasha deserves every bit of praise it gets. I love the whole exotic asian culture it has. I love the characters, the music, the storylines, and just everything. Honestly Inuyasha is a masterpiece. This anime will always hold a special place in my heart.

  • Thumbs up if you're re-watching this for the hundreth time!

  • @bendabledoll yeah i feel ya. sesshoumaru is also my favorite character in this series. haha

  • @69southpole all my most extreme criticisms of anime, and i should hate inuyasha, but I somehow can tolerate Inuyasha, for that first reason you just mentioned. most of all.

  • @thelastMaster100 I think they're worthy rivals of each other. I would agree that some voices are better in the original, but I think others are not. For one I think the Sesshoumaru is a thousand times better in the English, not that I disliked what the Japanese seiyuu did, but I think this voice actor had much more fun, his words just drip with scorn, its delicious! His timing is perfect. And I can feel the lines he speaks, his bitterness toward Inuyasha sounds more intense.

  • @fmlycrzyvid95 I know this was one of the joys of being 15. Come to think of it I was Kagome's age! :)

  • the japanise voices are better...

  • @JocelynJEG Thank you so much for the recommendation! Take care <3

  • This is the only anime I like in english more than japanese. I'm so used to the english voice actors.

  • @69southpole I just got to watching InuYasha (Im so glad I did) and it kind of reminds me of Rurouni Kenshin. That's an excellent manga/anime as well. The first 60 episodes are made after the manga but then it strays with a few bad non-canonical story arcs because they were stalling for the other manga volumes to be released. It's anime is only about 1/2 of the whole canonical storyline. It's also getting a new anime for its 15th anniversary! I highly recommend you check it out! ^^

  • I like the Japanese (non-dubbed) version soo much better.. After watching the original it just seems so wrong in English. Just my opinion. =P

  • @Sheeanmcguire It is... just in Japanese
