Hello knitters! This video is designed to give you lots of clear and helpful information about the cable cast on method. It produces a nice, even cast on edge which is excellent for picking up stitches for decorative borders.

  • beautiful video.

can the cable cast on be used for a 2x2 rib cast on?

  • I've never tried it! Give it a go and let me know how it turns out! :-D

  • You assumed correctly! Casting on is the same for straight needles, circular needles and double-pointed needles.

  • hi,i dont know why..but..when i cast on like 20 at the beginning ,by the time i get to the end ,it ends up having like 50 casted on and when i pull the finishing scarf off,it turns into an arch shape ?=((

  • Hmmmm...a knitting mystery. There are many possible reasons as to why your knitting isn't turning out as you would like it. I would hazard a guess and say that you are picking up extra stitches as you knit, perhaps in between knit stitches, or if you're changing between knit and purl stitches, you might be forgetting to bring the yarn to the back or to the front and you would end up with extra stitches (plus holes) that way. But it's really hard to say without seeing what you're doing.

  • hey, i was just wondering if you could make a video on how to knit on circular needles cause i'm wanting to make a hat, but i need to do it on circular needles...

  • Thanks for your comment; I'll put a circular needle tutorial on the list of things to do. At the top of the hat you'll have to switch to double-pointed needles, so I'll put up a tutorial on that too. Happy knitting. :-)

  • thank you... thank you. Beautifully clear!!

  • Great clip, thanks. I have found ebeginnersknitting (.) com to be very helpful also

  • @txcrafty2 The center part of the square she's holding is plain garter stitch. You just knit every row. I'm sure you could find a video by searching for garter stitch.

  • Thank you, thank you a brilliant video, you made this so easy for me. I actually used this method of casting on but did not realise it was called 'cable cast on method' but what a great to teach people the different stitches. I will certainly use this again

  • thank you for the clear, concise and effective tutorial.....So many patterns call for this particular cast-on method but until now I have never quite "gotten" it. Thanks again!
