Elvis Costello - The Scarlet Tide

An intimate, lovely, ukulele version of the song co-penned by EC and T-Bone Burnett. Well I recall his parting words Must I accept his fate? Or take myself far from this place I thought I hear...

Although Elvis' recorded version of this song might not be as good as the Cold Mountain version, I think this and other live performances of it that can be found on youtube (or seen at his concerts) are the definitive ones. Alison's version is nice, but sung too sweetly. Elvis' voice injects more passion, sobriety, and even a little anger into this song that reflects this range of emotions.

Elvis you should've parted company with the Colonel long before time. Why oh why did you spend so long being Hawian guys. I never knew you could play the ukelele. I guess it's just like a guitar with 2less strings. You've given us so much. I hope you give us some more. Wherever you are. I know you can heal my eyes. You're the king. Thankyou Elvis.

The host is like "DUH" !! IMO he doesn't look star struck, he just looks like an idiot. This was a serious performance and maybe he was smiling, not because "j.c., i can't believe Elvis Costello is on my show, etc" but because he WAS "touching himself" as you so eloquently phrased it. That would explain his idiotic grin

Not country at all fren, really more of a simple pretty folk tune, and a great one. But regardless, I'm glad to hear you like it.
