Here is the article:
One of two suspects accused of shooting and killing a Natomas HighSchool football coach last month spoke to CBS13 from jail, and says he is sorry.

Sacramento police arrested 20-year-old Maurice Reed, Jr. and a 17 year old for the shooting death of 26-year-old Salvador Heredia-Arriaga on March 26, 2010.

Reed and the teen claim they targeted the apartment because of ongoing marijuana sales being made there, say Sacramento Police. While the suspects were in the apartment, Heredia-Arriaga walked in.

Reed says it started with an easy way to get a couple of hundred dollars.

Heredia-Arriaga, who also lived at the complex, walked into the unit to visit friends who lived at the apartment.

"The plan was to just go inside and take the two ounces of weed and some money," said Reed.

Reed lives in Palo Alto, and claims he was in Sacramento for a month to take care of his grandmother when decided to rob the apartment. He got his sister and her 17-year-old friend to help him. The teenage accomplice was unplugging a Playstation when Heredia-Arriaga walked in.

"I hear a knock at the door, and I looked through the peep hole and I thought Salvador was white, I didn't think he was going to make any fun moves. So, I let him in and I was going to take him to the bathroom and have him sit with the guys and we were going to cut out smooth," said Reed. "But, as soon as I left Salvador, he started laughing and giggling or whatever. I didn't know he was going to do anything fun. So, he grabs my gun, so my gun is drawn at his head. As soon as he grabbed my gun, I heard 'pow', and then I ran," he added.

Reed also says he was not the shooter.

"My life could be over at 20...20 years of age. And I wasn't a bad guy and I wasn't even the guy who pulled the trigger," said Reed. "I didn't do it. I didn't do the murder. All I did was the robbery, really."

Reed was arrested on Wednesday after a short foot chase in Union City. He wrote a letter to Heredia-Arriaga's family apologizing for his role in the murder. The teenage suspect was arrested near Watt Ave. and Whitney Ave.

The community of Natomas -- especially the Natomas High School student body -- was stunned after learning Heredia-Arriaga was killed.

Heredia-Arriaga graduated from Natomas High in 2001 and went on to graduate from UC Santa Cruz. He came back home to help work with kids in the community. He was a first year law student.
