I'm curious as to how Armstrong would have done back in the 1970's or '80s. I have a feeling that Mercx on a modern-day bike and with today's doping errrrr...oops... training/nutrition would be an absolute beast. And that Hinault would have been Armstrong's daddy.

Should give everyone the exact same gear and bike. It has come down to technology and aero advantages. Also...the team riding is a joke. There should be no teams. What is this boring NASCAR. What ever happened to the love of the sport? Anything to gain an edge (don't read into that comment) the athlete part of the equation is counting for less and less.

He was wearing the helmet because this was a live simulation where the aerodynamics were being tested. What you can't see is the wind machine in front of him, blowing a slipstream across Armstrong and the bike.
If you don't believe this answer, then try this one on for size. He wore the helmet, just in case he fell off the bike, hit his head , allowing all the PEDS he took during his drug infested career to leak out. This is the true reason for his illustrious performances, Mr. Carmichael!
