@Poever I can answer that. WB neglected to renew the rights over the years and therefore plopped into the public domain. They do have the DVD/Video rights to the material (And I think Turner has TV rights), but as to the cartoon itself, it's now in public domain.
Don't get me wrong, copyright law is great. But it can get confusing and needs to be simplified.
