In 1989, WLKY-TV ran a series of promos for the incoming meteorologist Wayne Hart. They decided to play on his last name, and have a little fun with it.

The series of promos started out with a couple of "teasers" featuring hints at what was to come with a mask and a seductive female voice. The real fun began with the "dream sequence" promo that definitely deserved an award for most creative local promo of 1989, the "music video" promo that featured a marching band and the Louisville orchestra along with a cool car, and a military promo that was just really unusual to say the least.

Whether you like them or hate them, they are a part of Louisville TV history, and they have been "buried" in the "video vault" for far too long (probably where some would have hoped they remained).

  • Wayne Hart took John Belski's spot on 32 when he switched over to WAVE in 1989. John was (and still is) extremely popular and this was WLKY's attempt to hype the new guy. I don;t remember him lasting more than a year or so.

  • Wayne was a great meteorologist and very likeable but the PR department didn't take his skills as a meteorologist seriously enough to hype that and it backfired. Wayne has been the Chief Meteorologist at WEHT-25 in Evansville now for over a decade.

  • This was the time when WLKY was a poor #3 in the market. The marketing director had to do SOMETHING to get the station noticed, people just were not watching. So he decided to make the weather and sports guys into memorable "characters". The campaigns did get noticed, but didn't improve ratings much. It wasn't until 1990, when WLKY was forced to switch to CBS, that ratings improved.

  • What in the hell!
