This little fella was rescued from an abusive mycean environment, to then live with an obsessive hoarder where it then spent many a year on the floor receiving the odd kick now and then, simply for being in a woeful state. After a bit of therapy and brain stem re-wiring, we were able to get a sweet sound out it. This little Garrard has had the bearing replaced. The original one had balls missing and the race that held the balls fell to bits. There were two small knocks on the idler wheel, probably from sitting in the engaged position for so long. These knocks were sanded down ever so slightly on the lathe. A new spindle was turned to compensate for reduction in idler wheel radius. Saving the automatics were beyond current tech levels, so were excised. It is all manuel now, with no lifter. Springs (suspension) were removed as they seemed to make the bass sound soggy. It is as quiet as I can get it, but it is still no where near as quiet as the Lenco L 75. This difference in rumbling noise may be due to the balls in the Garrard as opposed to just one ball in the Lenco.

  • Fix for Garrard rumble is an o-ring above and below the disc bearing. Actually one thick one underneath may be almost as good.

  • @TheBeebopper You might be able to place an O-ring above, but there does not seem to be any room for one on the bottom. I replaced the race with teflon, and used smaller bearings. This made it quiet. Thanks for your comments.

  • Pulling the motor board suspension springs or simply clamping it down seems to be a common trait. I wonder though if a denser foam (in the spring ) is required than Garrard ever used. The best suspension is a 16" bicycle inner tube (DJ trick).
