At the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) talked about the importance of Net Neutrality and an open Internet, entrenched corporate power and what it takes to keep the Internet a level playing field for everyone.
Franken and Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) will be introducing a bill that would make Net Neutrality a law. The bill would "call Net Neutrality violations out for what they are: anticompetitive actions by powerful media conglomerates that represent violations of our antitrust laws."
Thanks to The Uptake for making the video of the speech available. You can watch Franken's entire speech at http://theuptake.org/2011/03/14/sen-franken-on-keeping-the-internet-free/.

Net Neutrality should NOT be a politically divisive issue. More Republicans need to stand up for protecting US citizens from corporate greed.

...the far left seen for the fools they all are ~ FREEDOM is now something they deem to throw away (to much exposure of their lies & lunacy if things stay the way they are)

The only way to have real net neutrality is to break up these vertically integrated monopolies, such as the telephone and cable companies. No company should be in the business of running cables, building any infrastructure, and selling any kind of service or content, at the same time. that should be the very start.
then we need to truly have a standards based internet, with NO PROPRIETARY protocols such as DOCSIS. Nobody should be selling us a "speed." that's another big problem.

We must support this! Thanks for the post! Now let's get the FCC and the rest of the GOV to do the right thing and back this!
