He basically holds the ball inside his fingers. I was taught to hold it on my fingertips. I also like his minimalistic service motion. It's very compact. One would think that I bigger wind-up would give more power.

i dont mean to be rude, just completely honest; I laughed when I saw your serve in comparison to John's serve. Its a good serve but it is mediocre compared to John's. Your serve was probably 80 mph whereas his is 130. I understand that speed is not the focus of this video but the serving styles were completely different (you hit a top/side spin serve whereas he hit a flat serve). I just doesnt add up; I dont see why you would hit a top/side spin serve with a flat serve toss.
