lucas man.. what a great player.. having been playing attacking midfield for his entire career in Brazil, to come to the toughest league in the world and adapt in a new holding midfield position and achieve the best tackling rate. Great job! YNWA

@EricCartman1st toure and silva are world class, but they are really the only 2 (kompany is world class as well, but he was there already).

i think a big reason our midfield players havent felt the freedom to attack as much is that they dont have the reassuring presence of lucas backing them up. they are less willing to commit themselves forward knowing that they could be leaving charlie adam as the last line of defense before the back 4

@10YNWA10 the situation at city is completely different than ours , they bought huge quality players who have delivered and who were far better than ours , you cant compare Downing to Silva or Henderson to Toure , They are miles better , and dont forget that city can correct any signing they might get wrong overnight because they have endless funds, do you really think our owners are going to give Kenny that kind of money to spend again ? we havnt got a prayer of challenging for the league

@10YNWA10 look all credit to Lucas he took awful stick when he first came, but he has improved a lot and is worth his place now , i just dont like the way Kenny sets us up , we have a history and tradition of attacking passing football and i think if you paid for a season ticket at Anfield you would not be happy watching that kind of football , and whatever way you dress it up he has spent 70 million on rubbish and plays negative, say what you will about UTD but you will be entertained .

@EricCartman1st have to...they used different players and a different style that worked very well for them. adam has shown flashes but i would agree that he has disappointed overall.

henderson is young and has potential, but was bought as a long-tern gerrard replacement, and i dont think he is ready to be a consistent starter yet. maybe a loan move to a mid-to-bottom club would get him some experience and confidence

@EricCartman1st i think our situation right now is very similar to the situation city were in last season. they barely qualified for the CL, and now that the same players have had a while to gel they are going to win the title. downing has had a bad season so far, but against cardiff he showed that he can be a fantastic player.

i think we may never replace alonso, but thats ok. lucas is world class, although his style of play is different. united never replaced keane or beckham, but they didnt

@10YNWA10 look while im glad we have won a trophy and are giving the FA cup a run, i think you cant deny that finishing 20 points of the pace in the league is just not good enough for Liverpool, we have spent 100 mil and have failed to replace Alonso and while Suarez is a fantastic player he is never going to score the amount of goals Torres did , and Adam, Henderson, and Downing are not at the level we need to move forward , they are no better than Rafas dodgey buys , we are not improving

@EricCartman1st i think that if lucas was still around, we would be much better able to committ players forward. players like downing, bellamy, adam, kuyt, henderson would have that extra sense of security that may just allow them to get into the box / bet to the touchline more often. don't forget, when lucas was healthy gerrard was not, so the fact that we are about the same defensively may be misleading. lucas allows others to realize their attacking potential

@EricCartman1st barca have a very unique player in sergio busquets. he defends very much like lucas, because he is VERY good at defending and does not dive a lot like alonso or pepe, and he can also pass the ball very well. doesn't come surging into the box, but he doesnt have to. he is just a fantastic, one of a kind player.

lucas has gotten MUCH better at passing btw (although i have to admit, not sure if he is a better passer, just attempts less difficult passes, or a combination of both

@10YNWA10 Lucas is out injured and we are just as strong defensively , we dont concede many goals because we have a very negative defensive style away from Anfield, and dont commit many players forward , UTD dont play with an anchor man , they want a passing midfielder who can build up play , City didnt take too long in dropping De Jong and playing a more offensive style , they are both 20 points + ahead of us, this anchor role is bullshit having the football is the best defense ie barca
