Triptych for V (2003)
music: Steve Everett
choreography: Anna Leo
dancers: Lori Teague, Amanda Lower, Blake Beckham, Jhon Stronks
performance: Schwartz Center for Performing Arts, Emory University, Atlanta USA
duration: 19:00 (excerpt: final 10 minutes)
The choreographer in this work examined mother-daughter bonds in a suffering quartet of separation and growth. This work is a rite of passage into some unknown secret, sacred order. The movement is derived from mathematical sequences of threes against fours and is highly structured within geometric spatial relationships. The music was designed using these same numerical and geometric sequences and was intended as an abstract environment for the subtle narrative of the dance to evolve and was constructed using the Kyma and Supercollider synthesis systems.
Steve Everett is professor of music at Emory University in Atlanta (http://www.steveeverett.org/).
Anna Leo is associate professor of dance at Emory University.
