    Opera's design was pretty simple before chrome came along, but Chrome may have made the simplistic design popular. But IMO Opera got the simple "minimalist" design right years ago, while no other broswer did until recently, and alot of there features came straight from Opera, like reopening closed tabs with ease (which chrome still hasn't gotten right), and continuing where you left off if you close the browser with tabs open (which to my knowledge chrome didn't seem to have until recently).

    Opera has been a browser since 1994, and has set many of the browser, and web standards that we all love today. Also, Opera created tabbed browsing too.
