Is it that you have ADHD and have learned to compensate, or do you have OCD? I share my experiences.

  • Great video. Just discovered your videos now from PsychologyToday*com!

I was diagnosed at 39 last year, and had often thought my 'checking' behaviour was OCD related, and tried to unravel the mystery and message of the magical ritualistic thinking that might be behind it all. Couldn't figure it out.

Then it made sense that my checking was due to my past experience having forgotten to lock doors and left wallet at home prior to leaving.

  • Hi there, according to Dr.Amen : OCD with ADHD can be better explained as a loop of negative thoughts and Rigid Thinking that is very hard to shift attention from task to the other. PEACE :)

  • I was not diagnosed with ADHD until about 52 yrs. of age. I believe knowledge is powerful and I have learned so much about both OCD and ADHD in addition to the other disorders I am recovering from. I am now 63 yrs. of age. After reading a few books, I realized that I too had learned to compensate as far back as I can remember in my childhood. Otherwise, I would "fall apart" not understanding that I was having anxiety attacks. You described me to the T. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

  • i loose everything!!! I pick something up say...a piece of paper or sun glasses or pens/pencils. i tend to misplace them everytime! and that's just about everyday, and the OCD thing i usually have to count to the number 7 in order to bypass my...thought processes i guess haha i don't exactly know i'm just winging this now, and sorry to cut this short, goodnight i have to hit the sack! peace :P haha just figured i'd say what i had on the mind before i ended up counting to 7 or counting 7 things

  • ha! Yea I've left my keys in the key hole many times before. So after I lock the door, I wave my hand around the key hole like 8X to make sure I didn't leave my keys in it so I won't have to get off the bus and run back home like a doofus(sp?) which in turn makes me late to wherever i'm going. Sound familar?
