Restoring a Fiat Pininfarina Spider 2000

Initial assessment, April 7, 2011: My fiance and I bought an old 1981 Fiat Pininfarina Spider 2000 convertible from my boss for $800. It needs some work to make it safe (i.e. brakes), but it is very drivable and the engine still sounds very smooth.

Looks like this'll be a 1-2 year project, so check back for monthly updates! Also, any cool paint/bodywork suggestions are welcome!

@YellowSubmarine20 I was preparing to defend my masters thesis a few weeks after posting this video, and the car sat around for that time. A good friend of mine saw it and wanted to do the work himself, so I ended up selling it to him. :( Not really sad to see it go, since I'm still capable of helping him restore it! Brakes needed work, and the driver's seat frame was cracked so it was re-welded. It's almost road-legal, but the tires are cracked so that's the only remaining obstacle.

I have a 81 spider in mint condtion not trying to rude but you might of bought a lemon not an orange

@YellowSubmarine20 No offense taken. It's definitely not in pristine condition. That's why I bought it though - to fix it up. Some people would rather just buy a car to drive, but the point of me buying this is to have something fun to work on. Mechanically, it drives 100%. It doesn't leak oil and the compression test shows it is pristine all around. I've built engines before, and this one is very promising. I want to learn about bodywork, so here's my project! Cheers

@wagonman01 Great to hear best websites for parts are International Auto and Mid bayless they are really great. Also find a mechanic in your neighborhood because with a Fiat your going to need one mine just had electrical problems last week but lucky me the fuse box came on done. good luck and f you have any questions drop me a line
