See my other Lou Reed video clips: Take a Walk on the Wild Side, and I Love You Suzanne!

Lou Reed at Farm Aid 1985, in Champaign, Ill.
From an old VHS EP Mode recording...until somebody gets a better dub up.

Interesting lineup in this band...who is the drummer wearing a SF Giants cap? One of the better drummers I've seen Lou with in those years. The guitar player is also a mystery. He's got some good effects and has interesting style and tone.
Enjoy!

  • I love this song. mabe the best from the album "New Sensations"

  • It really is a cool album, for the mid-80s, especially. There's a number of good cuts on there, including "My Friend George," "Doing the Things That We Want To," "What Becomes A Legend," the title track, and "Turn To Me." Maybe someone out there can name their favorites?

  • He's obviously a new yorker who knows a good cause!

As far as the redneck thing, lets not forget that Johnny B. Good was a country boy...Lou would agree. There were lots of rockers at this event.

  • What a treat.... great song... wish I had been at that concert.

  • I liked "High in the City". My big bro was a Lou Fan and me being all of 12 Years old was a Springsteen fan. I thought all Lou did was talk, couldnt sing... One day I poped my brothers "new Sensations" tape in my walkman and played it from beginning to end and......fell in love with it! That album kicked of a rather hard core apreciation for LOU REED!.... Never looked back!

  • Doode the bass is kicking ass in this live version.

  • @monster4josh I personally LOVE "My friend George", "Doin' the things that we want to" , "What becomes a legend most" and "High in the city". It's maybe one of his best albums, it's a shame he rarely plays it live nowadays.

  • hands down the best live version. so many times overloud keyboard ruins the mix. also lou fixes his harley/gpc amendment, and really flows --esp. toward the end where fernando clearly pockets him on to t he finish. nice.

  • great bass

  • The guitarist is Chieli Minucci and the drummer is J.T. Lewis. In the 80s and 90s they were both part of a highly successful smooth-jazz outfit called Special EFX, with George Jinda also on guitar. Their music was, of course, 360 degrees removed from this!

  • Fernando Saunders makes me want to set my bass on fire and throw it out the window.
