  • This is Die Moldau (also called Vltava), the most famous symphonic poem out of six symphonic poems (called Ma Vlast) composed entirely by Bedrich Smetana, the Czech composer. Why the title says Dvorak?! (I know it's probably coming in the same CD with Dvorak's Symphony 9, but Dvorak didn't compose this.)

    ...

Anyway, thanks for uploading this! Karajan did the best conducting of Moldau. It'd be great if you upload Dvorak's Symphony 9 (conducted by Karajan) as well.

  • @alibeshjr

    thanks for the information !

(and i'll upload the 9th symphony soon ^_^)

  • This is absolutely my favorite recording of Die Moldau I've heard. Most conductors play it at a faster tempo, but the more relaxed pace intermixed with the frantic 'eddies' of this version really delivers more emotion.

  • I'm a devoted Karajan fan too. As usual, his conducting of Moldau is very good. Secret behind Karajan's immense popularity among the classical-music fans around the world is ( excluding his too-good-handsome-face resembling idealistic image of a "conductor" ) I think he always had a pulse of every score he conducted... HIS READING OF THE SCORE WAS PRECISE, AND HE HAD THE MEANS TO INTERPRETE IN A WAY THAT WE ALL WANTED TO HEAR, I THINK THAT WAS, PERHAPS FAIR TO CALL IT A "KARAJAN'S MAGIC".

  • Actually the piece is called My Fatherland, it's only third, eighth and 10th (correct me if I'm wrong) part that is named Die Moldau. For those of you who don't know, The Moldau is a river.

  • @FredricEric

Mine, too! Me, too! It thrills me even more than it did when I was a child. Some things really do get better with age. ;)
