This December films that have remained underground will emerge and come to light. The underground film movement in Minneapolis is an organization of film revolutionaries dedicated to creating new and original work. The film festival was born out of a need to show that new work. The 3rd Annual Minneapolis Underground Film Festival will be showing 62 films over three days at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Over half of the films at this years festival are locally produced films made by independent filmmakers from the Minneapolis-St.Paul area. There are also numerous world premieres and festival events scheduled for this weekend of underground cinema. This year's festival has a special award to the best film voted on by audience members, 7 days of soundstage time valued at $10,000 to the winning filmmaker to make their next film. As festival organizers point out "For a filmmaker to be able to approach a producer and bring resources to the table with them is invaluable in getting their next project made."
