Psychologists have found that golfers who've played well perceive the hole as bigger than it really is. As this ScienCentral video explains, the researchers also found those who did poorly saw the hole as smaller than it really is. http://www.sciencentral.com/video/

  • or maybe some ppl just think the hole was bigger and some thought it was smaller, i think they look to into this xD

  • anyone else linked here from the social and behavioural sciences writing guide?

  • There are many established techniques that are extreemly successful in changing ones perception. Self hypnosis being the obvious and kinda the quick cheap way, but long periods of serious meditation (depending on the school) can create extreemly powerful positive changes in perception.

  • This video provides an interesting insight, but a poor conclusion. There is all kinds of research and evidence that you can, indeed, change the way you perceive something - including a golf hole.

It's strange how many people who study the mind fail to grasp it's incredible potential.

  • What a load of bullshit, I see the hole fine, I know where I need to hit the ball, doesn't mean I'm going to get it there all the time. She's probably just a rug muncher that's why she's fascinated with holes.

  • I always perceive the holes as moving around in the grass. That's why there's no point in me playing golf.

  • You may find astounding that this this experiment is in reality the extension of another one...

-- > the "Hot hand effect" that eventually led to the authors to get a Nobel prize in Economics ! ! (Kahneman 2002)

Please type "basket-ball Tversky" in Google to find that this is going far beyond than a simple sport-science experiment !

This may also be part of the explanation current crisis !

  • It seems alot like face zoom. There are two modes for seeing peoples faces, one is in full person mode, and then there is face mode, the face blows up much larger than life, looks quite ridiculous, but you can zoom in on fine details from a distance, its pretty overwhelming. Its very difficult to initiate zoom mode on a person you aren't interested in or attracted to. This attention to detail leads to increased probability of successfully judging reactions and making a good impression.

  • the scientific method is just a format teachers tell students to use. some scientist use it yes, but just because you dont doesnt make it incorrect

  • is this shit science? dont see any representation of the scientific method..
