This is a studio copy of The Producers' song, Dear John.
One cool song. Its not the best audio, however, as I did a line-in directly to MovieMaker from a Tascam casette recorder.

I just thought someone out there might enjoy this. I couldn't find a studio version online, so I figured I'd upload one. In my college days (the big 80's!) , my band, Nouveau Riche, (the drummer of which is now with the Velcro Pygmies- hey, Chris!) opened a show or 2 for The Producers and they were quite nice guys. We could never understand why they weren't more well-known nationwide than they were at the time, because they wrote killer tunes.

I don't do Youtube for money (obviously -note my account), but I'll gladly remove this if Producers representatives wish. Just let me know. Otherwise- enjoy.

  • Always loved the pop of Bryan's drums. He always had a lot going on, especially with cymbals, but always had that driving beat. But I couldn't stand to watch him play live. He had this facial tic that made him look like he had Terrets or something.

They re-masterd a CD a few years ago with "The Producers" and "You Make The Heat" together. Unfortunately, copies these days are collector's items, going for $50-$75 on Amazon!

  • @Lampster65 : yep . funny you'd mention that about the facial gestures, because I was remeniscing the other day about a gig we did with them back in 1985, and that thought came to mind. During their sound check we noticed his contortions and we were struggling not to laugh. Not to be mean- he's a great drummer- but it is funny looking. I remember that night we were wondering if he was making fun of someone else, because we thought he was joking. lol. good times.

  • This and "You Go Your Way" are two of my favs from these guys. Bryan Holmes was a big influence on me as I had been playing drums for only 3 years when I first heard She Sheila (loved the splash cymbal) on MTV. Always admired his style. I especially like the tom fills on this one! I still have the first three vinyl albums.

  • @SIE44TAR : Cool deal. Yeah- good musicians, those guys. I miss those days. Big 80"s & MTV.

  • I was in the studio in Atlanta when this song was cut, sitting in the control room across from the studio. These guys were amazing.

  • Loved these guys back in the day. I had the first two albums on cassette and unfortunately lost them. I would love to find the CDs of both of those albums.

  • Where can you buy their records? This particular song is for me a very special piece of music. I was one of those who used to hear all records in an album to find lost diamonds. This is one of those songs that you think they are great from the beginning but as it ends you discover it is still much, much better. I would really appreciate the info. Thanks and keep posting them. For me still and will be one of the greatest bands of my youth…

  • I went to see them everytime they came to town brings back great memories

  • AWESOME!!
