Skadie my 10.9 year old Lundehund, doing what only Lundehunds and Reindeer can do. Bend their necks to touch their backs. Yes she has little help from me, but trust me it doesnt hurt her, and you can tell shes rather fed up with me and the 4 or 5 trys it took to get this shot.

  • that's not A TRICK! YOU'RE THE ONE BENDING HIS NECK! jaj it's ok though, these dogs can do that, and even twist there heads 180 degrees.

  • I am bending her neck, however it is a natural movement for her,as you can see i amnot forcing it, she is falling asleep in this video. lundehunds are very flexible and can indeed contort their bodies so that their heads are back, it is roumored that they could "uturn" in puffin caves this way.

  • Additionally, these dogs are freakishly flexible, able to turn their heads a 180 degrees, bend their face backwards to touch their spine, lie totally flat with all four legs out to the sides, and rotate their legs over their heads. Plus, they can clamp their ears completely shut for protection from the elements. Sounds like these pooches could find jobs in the circus!

  • I think you are mis informed. while lundies are flexible, i am not sure they can turn their heads 180 degrees. it is the tops of their heads that can touch their backs. Their ears do not "clamp" as mouch as they can close. I have never seen a luncdehunds legs rotate OVER their heads, as you said they can spread their legs to 90 degrees of their body. All of this made them excellent cliff dwellers in their native norway.

  • I doubt that, skadie and modi can both fit into a 4inch by 5 inch Tunnel that is under my bed.. they also have a strong drive to chase "prey" squirrels, rats, doves etc...

  • Eventhough lundehund's are fleximble, people should never bend their neck. Many years ago some judges at dog show's tried it too because lunde's should be able to do so but it's forbitten novadays.

  • I have never heard that, anything a dog can do naturally doesnt hurt them. if the dog is resisting maybe. but both my lundies sleep with their necks jammed back sometimes...
