  • They can be high church when they want to be. This service was in honor of the 50th anniversary of the dedication of their sanctuary. And BTW, the deaconess is the wife of the pastor so he is very supportive AND of course she gets to march in the procession.

  • @rmemtman Well consecrated/ordanied deacons, man or woman, should have liturgical duty's in the church. Typical thing is leading the intercessions of the church, preparing the eucharist and reading the Holy gospel. It is a pity that the deacons in our Lutheran traditions do not baptise or having sermons (with the proper education, most have not today), but that may come I hope.

  • in the LCMS women CAN be deaconesses but have no liturgical duty's. They may read scripture lessons for services, but that is it. They hold other duty's in the Church. Deacons are the only ones that have Liturgical duty's if they have been trained for that type of service in the Church.

  • Well I could not see any reason why females would not go in the procession, as deacons, ministrants or something.

  • Of course women can be ordained deacons..that is a matter of order not theology. Lovely to see the deacon in liturgical vestments taking part of the procession. Is this congregation rather high church? I miss the cingulum though on the pastor/priest.

  • Are in LCMS womans can be deacones?

  • Alan, thank you SO MUCH for recording and sharing these memories. It really brought back the rush of emotions we were all feeling that Sunday. God bless.
