Are you sure collect drone is useless?

At higher levels it collects geoms MUCH farther away from you.

So in levels where you're focused on killing the enemies, or cannot reach the geoms (without dieing, of course) Collect can collect them for you, getting you multipliers, lives and bombs faster.

I have found that when I move around the field of combat, that eventually I will get these multipliers at the same speed. I have experimented with 'Collect' before, and it is just a preference.

If you have different experiences than I, then I encourage you to use the best strategy for you. =)

well i had enough of this game...gave me a major headach

That's one feature I really paid no attention to, and Kuju did a fantastic job with the spawn engine in this game. The speed of destruction of foes was proportional to the speed of foe spawning. It never really crossed my mind that THAT was happening when I used Sentry/Turret drone.

I've been playing for the gold medals and I was finding it impossible to get the 30 million on MASDUO using any drone that shoots, because eventually there gets to be too many asteroids and the stupid drones would keep blowing up too many, allowing the enemies to over run me (and after a while you run out of bombs to deal with them).

But I finally used collect and was able to get gold because it allowed me to concentrate my fire one asteroid at a time and not be over run.

I have found that collect drone is, by far, the best drone to use on the MASxxx planets (aka MASEIS, MASDUO, MASTRIS, etc.) - the ones with the 'asteroids'

It's great on these levels because it does not shoot, so it doesn't blow up the 'asteroids' that you aren't ready to deal with yet and it just goes and collects all the geoms from the ones you destroyed allowing you to move on to the next asteroid faster (you don't have to go down and pick them up yourself).
