@Garethtkd he was using a camera to view at the laser.

@mcamp76 The lasers can pop balloons and ignite matches at short range. Can't imagine what kind of damage it would do to your eyes especially if you're a pilot.

@mcamp76 I know how strong green lasers are - and I can appreciate how dangerous the situation *could* have been.
However, the fact is nothing did happen, and it was an immature prank by someone who would have learnt from their mistake without 4 years in jail. That's our tax dollars at work. Is the purpose to punish or to correct the offender's behaviour?
Nonetheless, if this deserves 4 years - then I seriously hope serious crimes get much, much more than 4 years.

@ashfi1994 -,- do you know how strong them lights are ? what if something happen the chopper crashed and killed a family of 4 ? how is this not serious ?

AWESOME stick the grub in jail. You can tell the mum thinks "Yiy my son she is angel.

i think 4 years is to much for shinning a laser look at people who get away with attempted murder and police pursuits they hardlly get enything thats a heavy sentence for a laser

this is a very serious crime that could very well lead to an accident. Imagine riding a motorbike on the highway at night and having some punk shine a laser in your eyes just as you are about to go around a turn. Now imagine the same thing except you are in the air, you can't just brake and pull over, and your vehicle will turn upside down if you make the wrong control inputs.
Shining a laser into an aircraft cockpit should be treated similar to throwing rocks from a highway bridge.

F.T.P !!
For shining a laser, it's four years. I seriously hope that more serious crimes get more time than this then.
Consistency is important.

I have been busted shining a lazer at a police boat (with a mate) & got off with a 2 year good behavior bond. I was 18 at the time, 20 now (another month to go). It had to be one fo the stupidest things I have done & I completely regret it, but I think 2 year good behavior bond was fair. 4 years Jail is just harsh, You would probably get less time for murder, we live in an unfair world.
