2004 Pontiac Vibe standard 5 speed manual transmission. Problem with fluctuating RPMs while idling in cold weather. Idle speed varies between 1800 and 2500. Seems like the engine cuts out until the RPMs fall back.
Its totally NORMAL, but simply annoying. They are designed this way to warm up the exhaust faster than if it idled slowly. There is nothing that can be done, its not a fault or issue, just how they designed this vehicle and its cousin the Toyota Matrix. At 2300 RPM the fuel cuts off.
Common problem on these my 04 vibe did the same thing i got a tester that reads codes on the computer and sayd the knock senaor was faulty i looked it up online turns out they have that as a common problem i have replaced it but thinking im going to get rid of it soon beacause it has 380000kms on it and the rings are getting worn but very dependanle cars defenitly a keeper.
@seesheirf if you would have actually read my comment you would have noticed that I said "In my experiance" which means I have / do own a toyota. I also happen to not mind it at all. The only thing is that whatever goes wrong is something impossibly burried in the dash or something staring me right in the face but somehow I have to take off 3 hours worth of other crap to get to it. Oh btw How many rednecks have a heated garage to work on their lexus? (Toyota in disguise)..... i didnt think so.
Exactly. "Piddly shit". Extremely minor things, like this 20 minute job and an $8.00 part (gasket).
I laugh my ass off wen I see hillbilly redneck trailer trash like you come on here and bash Toyotas. Complete arrogance that the majority of Americans (especially hillbillies and rednecks) share. Its the same reason why the domestic car manufacturers keep scratching their heads wondering why they suck so bad.
mine does this and the check engine light says # 1 cylinder misfire. i have switch #1 cylinder sparkplug and coil with # 2 and erase the computer code. the light came back on with the #1 cylinder misfire again. a guy in another video told me his vibe did this and his problem was a intake gasket. that would make sens as the heat would close the gap and wen cold it would leak again

We had this problem and solved it by replacing intake manifold gasket.
