Bought this around September-October 2010 for $5.47. Actually it was a gift but whatever.... This was the healthiest looking one they had. I just wanted to show my 2 year old nephew a cool plant eat some flys.

Kept on window sill. Collected some rain water when it rained here in southern California and that how i keep it moist.

Motherfudger stopped growing new traps and eating though. Its probably the flower it grew or the cold weather we went through a while ago.

Meh. Hopefully it doesn't die.

  • @theanimallover246 Purified water meaning distilled waters like rain water. Tap water especially in states like NY is not only contaminated but also has medicines mixed in that kills germs and bacterias. Drinking water actually has too much nutrients than rain water so that can also kill carnivorous plants as well.

CP prefers soils with 0 nutrients and rain water or something similar.

it can get along without flies just fine. they eat ants and stuff too (i think). Im not an expert, but i looked up a couple websites and found some info on them. I think you can feed them meal worms too. i would stay away from bread, and only feed it an insect once every so often. and under no circumstances make the pods close for no reason (it takes away energy from the plant and rendures the pod useless, sometimes the pod dies)

i didnt know that lol im glad i watched this vid or i would have killed it befor it even aterted to grow! :D do they have to eat flies? or can i feed it things like other bugs eg ants and mayby even bread or sumthing??

  • @theanimallover246

yeah, like drinking water. i guess these plants are sensitive and tap water has minerals that can kill the plant.

puridied water as in the bottled water? i am growing one from seeds and have no idea how to grow it apart from keeping away from direct sunlight and to not water it from the top.....

  • i have been told your supposed to cut the flower if you want more traps and the plant to grow...the flower takes usable energy away. also, you have to use PURIFIED water...no tap water.

  • Probably lack of light I suggest from looking at the development of the size and shape of the new traps.

Anyway, gd luck with your new plant!
