The Magic of Reality is released in hardback and audio editions on 15th September 2011. It will also be available as a stunning iPad App.

What are things made of?
What is the sun?
Why do bad things happen?

Throughout history people all over the world have invented stories to answer profound questions such as these. Have you heard the tale of how the sun hatched out of an emu's egg? Or what about the great catfish that carries the world on its back? These fantastical myths are fun -- but what is the real answer to such questions?

The Magic of Reality presents the real story of the world around us, taking us on an enthralling journey through scientific reality, and showing that it has an awe-inspiring beauty and thrilling magic which far exceed those of the ancient myths.

We encounter rainbows, our genetic ancestors, tsunamis, shooting stars, plants, animals, and an intriguing cast of characters in this extraordinary scientific voyage of discovery.

Richard Dawkins and Dave McKean have created a dazzling celebration of our planet that will inspire and amaze readers of all ages, and will entertain and inform for years to come.

  • Family reading, unlike so-called holy books. Facts, plain and simple. No spooky stuff to scare your children, just educate.

  • Thank you Richard Dawkins. That's the kind of books I loved when I was a young child and which made me decide to become a scientist. I need this book, for me and my future children.

  • I like the point that Dara Ó Briain made in one of his comedy skits. You don't give a man whose opinion that the night sky is a blanket with holes poke in it the same respect as you do an astronaut that's spent time on the space station.

  • I can't wait to read it myself and read it with my kids.

  • I hope this is released in Spanish, so I can give it to my future son/daughter.

  • if you like to live in a lie go ahead, if that makes you sleep better at night...

dawking is only looking for protagonism by attacking people´s faith and religion, using assholes such as you that can´t think for themeselves.

10 years ago the universe was colapsing on itself, nowdays it´s expanding. they don´t know a flying fuc* about how everthing works or how all began and that seems to scare the shi* out of some of you that use sience as a blanket to sleep comfortable at night

  • I have read many of Richards books, this will be no exception.

Not only for me but to immunise my children against the disease of Religion.

  • Damn I wish I had this when I was a kid...

  • Oh dear. That 'interview' with that idiot Stein has been cleverly edited & quote-mined. Also, go & look up the word 'theory' when it's used in a scientific capacity.

  • Dawkins is quite correct not to give any airtime to WLC. Why should an educator of facts waste his time debating a snake oil salesman? It would be akin to a geography professor debating a flat-earthist or a human biologist debating a stork-theoryist. It's absurd. Kudos to Dawkins for not wasting his time with such idiots who merely try & peddle absurd, unsubstantiated mythical nonsense.
