Are Indian sports team nicknames, logos, and mascots insulting to Indians? You be the judge. This question addresses whether America is culturally diverse and sensitive to the needs of its minorities.

  • Hey, all you whiners who are offended by everything.... Fuck You.

  • @hannityforpres: Thank you for your opinion, racism lover.

  • I've written about the Notre Dame and Florida State cases. See "Fighting Sioux vs. Fighting Irish" and "Why FSU's Seminoles Aren't Okay" for details.

  • No Indian stereotypes are bad? Actually, they're all bad because they limit our understanding of real Indians.

  • Re "give back the cloths you are wearing, the computer you type these messages on, your cd player, your home, everything you own":

Fol2005 doesn't understand the deal he's proposing. Not only would he have to give up half the food he eats, he'd have to give up HIS home and land. After he went back wherever he came from, he could enjoy his computer and CD player. Meanwhile, Indians would enjoy America's vast beauty and its vast bounty of natural resources: gold, oil, timber, crops, etc.

  • Re the "no big deal" argument:

Attendees at "Native Voices," a recent conference sponsored by BNP Media and the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institute, were told the greatest threat to Native America was our image among non-Indians, elected officials and policy makers.

  • @ImOfNope

Okay quick question. I can understand howq Redskins are insulting, but how are Blackhawks insulting? Aren't they named after a historical figure?

  • htt p ://wh .gov/ gmM Retire All Ethnically Offensive Mascots From Public Schools

  • Perhaps these mascots should be changed to fat, greedy white men covered in blood, then we'll see if white people get offended.

  • The fact is there will be no change in mascots until there is scientific evidence that this moral, ethical issue is harmful to our children. I say to that: okay, you don't listen to us. Fine.

I am not waiting around for people to find a moral compass in scientific facts. I am purposing to start a support group for youth that have been victims of racism. If you sports fans can't see these mascots as what I call "Gateway Racism" your problem.

Helping the kids you victimize - mine.

  • @1980vince I'm not one to argue about this. However, "Colonel Reb" (Ole Miss.), Fighting Irish (Notre Dame), Fighting Scots (Monmouth College), "Purdue Pete" (Purdue), New York Yankees which a Yankee is someone that fought for the north in the Civil War. That included many races. "Rowdy" (Dallas Cowboys) and my old high school was the Union Yankees, a 7 ft. tall Civil War Soldier. Now, take a good hard look at "Rowdy", tell me that white people are filled with shame. I like Rowdy, no shame.

  • @hannityforpres What about "Patriots"??? I'm white, I don't get offended by New England and the many of other schools and teams that use that mascot. It's a symbol of pride. That's what I took of it so I agree with you. Though I may have worded it different

  • @hannityforpres it's cause your fucking colonized.....decolonized irish, and i met many, hate the fighting irish just as much as they hate st. patricks day

  • Oh and the reason I'm so offended by the Native American mascots is because well I don't want to be associated with such white trash, hows that sound, fag.

  • LOL seriously... ok hannity I'm offended by white fat americans who are too lazy to get off the couch, unless it means getting a bigmac from Mcdonalds. I mean seriously your all obese, and half of you don't work wtf... seriously? And your women are gross hows that sound.

  • @rvsjr You're welcome. And I'm not offended. I have other things to worry about rather than be offended by things. I'm Irish, by the way, and love the Notre Dame fighting Irish.
