Excel Sports: Installing a Tubeless Road Tire

@ExcelSportsBoulder Hutchinson has no recommendation against using tire levers to install Road Tubeless tires. In fact, Hutchinson makes a tire lever expressly for this purpose. One end is a lever and the other a cap with sponge to "soap" the bead of the tire before installing. Soaping the bead (50% water-50% dish soap) helps lube the beads so they slip into the rim easier upon inflation.

Note about a gash in the tire. Hutchinson Road Tubeless tires can be patched from the inside just like patching a tube using the Hutchinson Road Tubeless patch kit. It's called a Rep"Air kit.

@tmunk123 The video is uploading now! Our shop guys were good sports and the race was much closer than anticipated!

@ExcelSportsBoulder This is excellent! Please quantify (as much as possible) the differences in difficulty with mounting a tire. And if you can have one of your guys try it with a tube installed (either Campy or Dura Ace), you will be my hero forever.
Please post a link here to the new video(s) when they're done!
Thank you for this video. Two days ago I had Atoms installed on my DA WH-7900s and managed to get a gash in the rear tire yesterday. Ugh. The air isn't leaking out but the gash is big enough to have me concerned so I'm going to remove the tire and patch it until a replacement arrives. I'm hoping the reinstall will be as easy as this video makes it look (wishful thinking most likely :)) but atleast I have an idea how to get started now. Any tips for removing a tubeless tire without a lever?

@Digitalfiendscom That is really hard to be honest. I personally haven't gotten many Tubeless tires off without a lever, but on the occasion that I do it is because I managed to get the bead centered in the very middle of the rim. If the tire has a gash, then I wouldn't even hesitate to just take it off with a lever and get rid of it.

I have a new set of Campy Shamal Ultra 2-way fit rims...I also have a Hutchison Fusion 3 tread...I can not for the life of me get the last section of tread over the rim and I'm not a weak guy. You make it look relatively easy in both videos - what's the trick to that last section because it "ain't" budgin' no matter what I do on the Fusion 3??

@tenacean Check out our shop guy race video too. we had them race installing tubeless on shimano and campy.
The only trick that I can say is to make sure the tire is seated in the middle of the rim the whole way around. The absolute lowest point in the rim is where you want the tire to be. When you get around to the tough spot, switch from your thumbs to your palms and roll the tire over. It should snap on there.
