I really dont have much information on this Paul Simon rarity other then what is said in the clip. I hope you enjoy this one that has been well hidden in the vault. I am so sorry about the sound quality. I tried the best I can to make it sound clear.
Are there any photos of Paul in Exeter?

Paul simon would have been to modern to play at the Exeter Folk Club at the Jolly Porter, but was instead invited to play at an alternative venue that normally meet in the basement of Head Weir House however, it was considered too small a venue for this up and coming American, so his appearance was moved to the loft in the barn of Newhayes House in Cowick Lane.
Newhayes house has long since been demolished

Paul has based this track on a song called "Engine 143". It's a true story of George Alley who died in Oct 1890 due to a Rail crash on the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad. Joan Baez also covered the song on a 1961 LP (Vol 2).

Great clip. You have some amazing rarities, thanks for sharing. As a daily Northern Line user, it's amusing to hear it celebrated like this.

This recording was done in a old barn in Exeter UK. Before he was famous, recorded on a standard Grundig reel to reel tape recorder. The recording is approx 70 mins long. I had the original, before it was sold ion Ebay. Still have the photos to prove it.

Poem on the Underground Railroad says something about "4 Words" I think this was mentioned in either the Sounds of Silence Live and Live in New York 1967. This song has the 4 words Art was talking about when introducing Poem on the Underground Railroad. Anybody can figure this one out right? This is a great song.
