I flew from Buenos Aires to El Calafate, connecting in Ushuaia (in icy weather on the infamous MD-80 series). The aerial shots were taken from the plane and are of Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia. The landing into Ushuaia is insane and everyone needs to do it once. The air is so cold that the plane is still shaking only feet from the ground. You have to circle the airport at this extremely steep angle in strong turbulence. It always annoys me when people clap after landing on planes, but this pilot totally deserved it. The rest of the pictures are of El Calafate. The lake/mountain views are basically from the front door of my hostel. El Calafate reminds me of a mix between Barstow and Tahoe. It's got all the adventure sports and hiking stores downtown (Tahoe), a big casino right in the middle (Tahoe), and the rest of the town is unpaved streets, stray animals, and piles of rocks (Barstow). I tried the legendary Patagonian lamb, which was excellent... especially the crispy skin parts. They had two kinds of tripe salad (?) as well. Good times.
