Here is a SuperCharged engine built from a 5hp (model13...) Briggs and Stratton.
It uses a Modified TurboCharger from a Chrysler 2.2 , built by Garrett. I have to that my friend Clarence for machining the Supercharger bearing housing etc., as he does awesome work! He has helped out with some of my other engines also :)) The blower spins at 6 times crankshaft speed.
We have not run this engine in this configuration, but did run it with the carb. on the compressor inlet, it was a bit of a pain to start that way, so my son decideto run a pressurized carb. Hopefully it runs OK. One thing is for sure, it isn't going to be quiet!

  • did you just drill the jets? dont think they sell larger jets for those motors?

  • @domains38

Yes, we did drill the jets one time for a go kart engine. We went too large, and it ran poorly! Even with a set of # drill bits etc., a slight increase can be too much.

We like the old carbs with the needle valve, gotta luv those golden oldies!!!! :)

  • @ChargerMiles007 can you use those turbos on exhaust instead?

  • @domains38

Yes, you could, but the average Turbo you can buy cheaply is way to large to spin up to a reasonable speed with such a small displacement engine. It will spin, but it sure won't make anything for boost.

  • This is actually a procharger style compressor. it is basically a turbo with a pully. cool idea

  • @tylerspyler2

Yes, I guess you are right, hadn't really thought of that, we just came up with the idea, and built it. :)

  • @ChargerMiles007 Cool... i just drilled one for a quad racer i'm working on i had two jets to work with one to big other to small... in my case I got lucky 1/16 was right in the middle. I'm only working with big bores... your video inspired me to look into other methods.

I will admit that I am not fully aware of how this set up works, as my son built it. I think the idea is that since the carb is now pressurised, the fuel needs to be also, but I think the tank isn't pressurized, only the fuel after the pump, like in a car. I goofed on the vid, it is all the high pressure I am under!!!!! :)

  • @Mrengineerwannabe1 I think he got it wrong about the fuel tank.but my nitro engines pressurise the tank from a pipe from the muffler to the tank. Its only a little pressure but I'm not sure if it would be safe to do this with petrol.
