After ordering and receiving the Opteka X-Grip, I found that it wasn't really built for the upright pocket video cameras (Zi8, Flip, etc.). The "grip" handle curved downward, obscuring the camera's view. I took a 1/2 inch dowel and some foam pipe insulation and made an extra handle that wedges open the Grip so that it no longer obscures the camera.

UPDATE: The new X-Grip does not have this overhang, so this fix is not needed for the newest generation.

I will test out the grip with the camera in another video (soon).

  • Hey, would this work with the new version of x-grip or you would not need to use this process? Thanks

  • @jairhumphrey

The new version doesn't have that overhand, so it doesn't need thisd fix.

  • is that a fish eye on it?

  • @ShreddiesAOF

    No. It's a wide-angle lens.

  • im also getting one for my kodak and so do u think i ould easily make it fit nice and snug for skateboard filming

  • @TheThomasfactor

Yes. I've used it for filming skateboarding, both running along the side and on a board.

  • @SexyTomatoz it works well , all my videos have that setup on it. has an opteka fisheye lense and the opteka x grip

  • cool i will get this for my flip with fish eye to use to film sk8 vid.

  • I got this or my flip and it fits perfect..even with the fisheye on it

  • @Rewindflix

The taller (newer) x-grip wasn't out when I made this video, so this was a simple, cheap solution.

No, it is not a fisheye. It is a combo wide-angle/macro lens.

  • works for mah flip.
