2002 Ford Taurus exhaust sound cold start & rev

Cold start & revving my Ford Taurus SES 24V DOHC Duratec V6. Hitting rev limiter. Helps to have it in neutral.

If it happens only when cold, check your MAF sensor.

I think it would be easier to replace the sensor instead of taking apart the air intake duct, which is a pain, it that be the problem.

@brandonya1990 Yeah, I know they have rev limiters, I own an '01 SES, But I've never heard mine make snapping noises when it hits the limiter.

@brandonya1990 I'm aware these cars have rev limiters, I own a 2001 SES that hit's the limiter at 4k in neutral.

@cougarfan1341 No its the rev limiter, all the Taurus's have them when in park and Neutral, also like my car, when i hit 110mph, the rev limiter kicked in and wouldnt let me go any faster

why does it matter to have it in neutral?

wow, that sounds pretty bad, snapping at high revvs, bad combustion would be my guess
