I received my replacement Contour Plus so I was able to try a comparison between the two camera's.
I will do the same test using metering set to spot as this can improve video's shot at night.
Then later I will try a 960p comparison test.

  • 720p @ 60fps is better for car/bike stuff, 1080i @ 25-30FPS is ok at best, also using a class 10 flash card helps a bit if you can afford it

  • @isocuda 1080p 30fps is perfectly fine for cycling, the biggest impact on the output is the program used to render the video and the encoding used, for example mpeg2 gives a far superior picture compared to wmv files.

I do use class 10 cards but class 6 cards work just as well, as I used them until a few months ago.

  • I'm gonna buy GoPro. It always seems sharper, better white balanced and brighter in lower light.

Did you export your video interlaced? I mean, both cameras shoot progressive, and when you render it to interlaced you get those annoying horizontal lines....

  • @leandrolefa I always render in 1080p.

The GoPro is an excellent all round camera, I prefer my Contour Plus, except in low light conditions, but it is $200 more, as I like the embedded GPS information which makes using Dashware very easy.

  • @BadSwindoomRoadUsers Damn. Why the horizontal lines, then? These things about video drive me crazy.

The GPS feature definitely can make a difference.

Your video was the last of many I've seen, trying to make up my mind between both cameras. Thanks for the comparison.

  • @leandrolefa Thinking about it, I realise I now produce straight to YouTube, I need to check that uploading direct from PowerDirector 10 is not causing a problem.

Previously I produced a video file then uploaded it, so that I had complete control over the whole process.I will need to do some testing to see if it makes any difference.

  • @BadSwindoomRoadUsers That could be it. I've never used it, but I'm aware there's presets and you can change settings.

I was pretty upset with Compressor's Youtube preset (back in school I had to use FCP), because I had a 1080p video and the preset exported it to 720p. When I realized, the video was already up with a lot of views, so I didn't want to re-upload it (it's the Jamiroquai - Feel So Good). Real bummer.

    But hey, good luck! =c)

  • thank you

  • @Working

Aha so very sorry, misread. Didn't wear my glasses. Sorry man.

  • @suryaprihadi I think you have not read the comments correctly, one advantage of a GoPro is you do not need a PC to change settings but you do for a Contour camera. Although the newer Contours can also be accessed via a smartphone to change settings.
