From Sunday Night at the London Palladium - Britain's answer to America's Ed Sullivan Show - that fabulous quintent from Manchester, the Hollies, perform "Look Through Any Window." The first American Top 40 hit for them, it peaked at #32 in January 1966. Written by professional songwriter Graham Gouldman, its distinctive 12-string riff, along with soaring harmonies and Bobby Elliott's explosive drumming, make it one of the Hollies' and the British Invasion's finest moments. The B-side was "So Lonely," written by Graham Nash, Allan Clarke, and Tony Hicks under the pen name L. Ransford. It also became their opening title for the 1965 album "Hollies".

  • Fantastic to see this. Thanks for the memories Vrinda! I remember watching this: I was 10 and the Palladium was a 'must-see' on Sundays at our house....for me especially this one since I had a full-blown crush on Allan by then.

  • You're so welcome! I envy you: Getting to see this when it was first on. I've got quite a full-blown crush in Allan, too!

  • TALENT! :-D

  • This is the kind of stuff you can't get from a bottle!

  • The Hollies are so underrated it's criminal. Also, Tony is very underrated as a guitarist. I think he is one of the best

  • Thanks for posting this vid, broadcast the year I was born! I had a big crush on Allan too Sapphiretaurus, when I was a little girl. Still love his voice, listen to this all the time.

  • I'm looking forward to seeing the boys at the London Palladium on March 15th, the day before their inauguration into the Hall of Fame. Sadly, now, they are without Clarke and Nash, but I bet they will sing 'Look through any window'.

  • How great to hear of their nomination to HOF. Loooong overdue. Maybe now they will finally be respected here in America as they should have been from the start. I could never understand why they weren't. The Bangles have always championed The Hollies. Maybe The Bangles should induct them.

  • Tight, or What!

  • May I add... This appearance was by invitation only! The 4 lads from Liverpool weren't the only musicians that were invited.. The Hollies were unique in such a way that no other bands could emulate.. The distinct voice of Allan Clarke and the rest of the band. Rock on!

  • Ya see? The 4 lads from Liverpool weren't the only musicians that were invited to play the London Palladium.. This was by INVITATION only!

Managers did not book a show.. They were very, very talanted... What is remarkable is.. No other band had their sound! Made them unique... Rock on!

  • They were?? That's awesome! It's funny-I had thought they were in all along and when I found it they were not-I was going to email the RHOF to ask what their damage is.

  • True-it improved like wine.

Still love Donnie though-I think he's sexier than ever lol.

  • At least your taste has improved since then!
