Martin Luther King Jr was one of America's most influential civil rights activists focusing on the inequality and injustice faced by Black Americans.
At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King, Jr., was the youngest man to have received the Nobel Peace Prize.
On April 4, 1968, while standing on a hotel balcony in Memphis, Tennessee, where he was to lead a protest, he was assassinated.
In his honor, America has instigated a national Martin Luther King day, which is observed on the third Monday in January. He remains symbolic of America's fight for justice and racial equality.
