@matcotech As for your computer example, I'd say it's a better argument for Creationism rather than evolution. I mean, did your computer just evolve or did someone create it ?
-
Thanks for the lesson, but I'm well aware of the difference between hypothesis and theory. However, theory does not equal fact. Theory (scientifically speaking) means "we believe it happened this way because we found X, Y and Z". Just like science once told us "our theory is that rotting meat produces life because we saw this rotting steak, and when we came back the next day, there were maggots". I noticed you still havn't offered up any examples of the Bible being proven incorrect.
-
@JudyGurl In science the word "theory" means a working model. "Hypothesis" means an unproven prediction (I think that's what you meant). The same pertains to the theory of gravity, the theory of relativity, or the Pythagorean theorem. There are few things as certain as the theory of evolution. The same precision of theory that allows your computer to work, also grounds the theory of evolution. So to say, "just a theory" is contrary to what the word "theory' actually means.

@matcotech Nice try ace. I said name one thing in which the Bible has been PROVEN INCORRECT. True enough, there are things in the Bible that have yet to be verified, which is all you've mentioned, but much that has been verified. And not for nothing, but you do realize that Evolution is still just a theory, right ?
-
@JudyGurl Name things the bible was wrong about, easy... Creationism, Noah's Ark, Unicorns, Giants, The Exodus, Talking snakes, and mass resurrection. And yes... evolution has been proven, the amount of data supporting it is unimaginable in depth and breadth. This isn't the 20's, it's 2011.
-
@matcotech oh, and why didn't you answer my original question to you ? Do you know of anyone, Christian or otherwise, who beleives the earth is flat ? And here'sanother l'il question for ya. Can you name one thing in the Bible that has been proven factually incorrect ? Science has been proven wrong time and time again but I can't think of any instance where the Bible has been proven wrong.
-
@matcotech Long before the Hellenistic period, the Old Testament was written. In it, the earth is referred to as a "circle", however the word used for "circle" in the original transcript is the same word used to describe the shape of an apple or pear. This was well before there was any way to scientifically prove it was spherical. India and China held on to the "earth is flat" belief much longer than Christians. And let's not forget, it wasn't JUST Christians, but scientists too.
-
@JudyGurl I suppose you think it's the bible, how dumb. The earth was known to be spherical before the Hellenistic Greek empire, that is to say, before the bible and not by Jews. Christians believed it was flat long afterward because of scriptural dogma. Research the question before you assume the answers. It's easy to observe the mast of a ship disappear over the horizon.
-
@matcotech Ya know, there is so much I could reply to this, but instead, let me ask you a very simple question. Do you know anyone, whether in your personal circle or someone you've read or seen on tv that still believes the earth is flat ?
Oh wait, I have a follow up question. Do you happen to know where the idea that the earth was globe or ball shaped rather then flat came from ? (Jeopardy theme music as I await your answer)

anyone find it strange that Democtrats demonize the Insurabnce industry in relations to Healthcare costs - but they don't go after the Trial Lawyers Association?
It is because Democrats are bought and paid for by the Trial Lawyers Association.
So, it is the law to get health insurance and if you dont the IRS agents funded by this bill will come after you. But it is not a govt takeover. If insurance companies do not meet the govt mandates they will not be part of the exchange, but no, this is not a govt takeover. The cost of this crap is in the trillions and your medical records are in the hands of the govt. Oh, but it is not a govt takeover. Saying that it is not a govt takeover is the lie.

Whenever I hear people like this, it reminds me why I am wary of any democratic 'call to civility'. They want to compare their political opponents to Nazi's, KKK, serial killers, etc... Without fact, or evidence to back them up... It always seems like the DNC is quick to use the most disgusting and violent/vitriolic language possible, and then cry wolf when any opposition comes from the right. Thank God for those who do speak out against this guy, on both sides.
