Four Tibetan Monks & one Nun will visit Yackandandah from the 1/7/2008 to 21/7/2008 The Tibetan monks are living in exile, in the Drati Khangsten at Sera Je Monastery in Southern India. Sera Je Drati Khangtsen was founded by Je Jamchen Choeje
Shakya Yeshe in the early 13 th century AD during the early history of Tibetan Buddhism.

A khangtsen is a branch institute of a monastery. Drati Khangsten provides assistance to refugee monks from a particular area of Tibet, Himalayen regions and Butan.

The Drati Monks Peace Tours goal is to raise awareness of and share the Tibetan Culture, Art, Buddhism, and to raise urgently needed funds to provide accommodation,
a place to practice and study, education and basic health care for the monks.

While the monks are in Australia, they will be making Sand Mandalas, holding retreats, leading meditations, sharing their knowledge of Buddhism, teaching traditional cooking, and sharing time with local school children.

In the school they allow the children to use the mandala making equipment, tell stories, make prayer flags, draw and color mandalas and teach traditional chants, for world peace, good health and for a positive environment. Following the crack down on the tibetan monks and culture in Tibet the number of monks is ever increasing.
At this time there are some 380 monks residing in Drati Khangsten. Aproximately 50 new monks arrive each year, causing quite some considerable strain on the resources.

Now with the latest crackdown there will be MANY MORE!

YACKANDANDAH WILL HOST 4 TIBETAN MONKS AND NUN FROM THE 1ST OF JULY UNTIL THE 21ST OF JULY THIS WILL BE A HISTORY MAKING EVENT FOR YACKANDANDAH , A GREAT CULTURAL EXCHANGE FOR THE PEOPLE OF THE NORTH EAST OF VICTORIA AND THE INDIGO SHIRE.

PLEASE SUPPORT THEIR VISIT AND COME AND MEET THESE WONDERFUL PEACEFUL PEOPLE AND LEARN ABOUT THEIR CULTURE.
