Before Richie was with Bon Jovi he would audition for anything even if didn't really care about it. I mean if you're not in a big band you've got to have work. After all, Bon Jovi might be big now but once upon a time they were the underdogs who couldn't get a break.

Compared to Vinnie Vincent or Bruce Kulick, Ritchie Sambora is like a beginner.

I call "bullsh*t". If you didn't want it, why audition? So you could say that you "didn't want it" if/when you made it big w. another band? He sounds like a chick who got dumped but goes around saying that she did the dumping.

I didn't get the gig, which was really convenient for me, because, it turns out, that band wears make-up and costumes as part of their show, and I ain't into that. If I would have known fully, what they were about, prior to auditioning, I probably would've cancelled my audition. Whew!!! PS - I've been a guitarist for 30 years. IMHO Ace is more bluesy-based than Sambora.
