Jamersonshook, nice try, but that drum beat is too simple. Not enough syncopation for Jamerson. If Benny Benjamin would have played that simply we wouldn't have danced to the Motown sound back in the day. That's Motown for beginners.

And I love John Bonham (especially on Black Dog).

Thanks! Papa Zita was just awesome - it always struck me that Bonham must have listened to a fair bit of Motown - he used the Motown beat on a few tracks as I recall (not this one though, as you say).

@jamersonshook ; I read that bonham and jones were enormous fans of soul music, especially james brown, and used that influence liberally w/ zeppelin. Sounds it to me.
