SP 4449 Cab Ride pt. 3

On the July 24th all day excursion during Train Festival 2009, I won the raffle for a chance to ride in the cab of the Daylight on the 3 hour return trip from Alma to Owosso. Here's a shot leaning out the window on the fireman's side.

I just couldn't believe it. I re-read my ticket number like five times just to make sure it was really the winning ticket!

i agree!! the daylight has the best whistle above all steamers, sounds sweet!!

SP 4449 has got to have the sweetest sounding whistle on any steamer in the United States (UP 844 is a tough competitor, though). Possibly even in the world.

a little off topic here but.....seeing all those abandoned tracks going to that grain elevator kinda breaks my heart. I hate seeing grown over rusted spur lines!!!!

where do you go to find cabride tickets?

You are one lucky guy! I never bought a cabride ticket, but i wanted to. By the time i realized they were selling them, they were all sold out! Ill never have the chance to ride in 4449's cab, but ill have plenty of rides in 765's cab. I volunteer at the society now.

Union Pacific was smart enough to keep their steam program going thru all of these years. I wish Norfolk Southern would have done the same. It'd be nice to see 611 and 1218 in operation again..never gonna happen though.
