Poor people. I have a film showing forging of railroad wheels in a Swedish plant in 1917. The workers had better equipment in 1917 than these guys have now, and the productivity was something like ten times higher than this. It only took them a minute or so to forge a railroad rim with flange. In those days the rims where crimped on a center with forged spokes. That took another four or five minutes. The forging press served about four or five crimping stations.
