Removing an old floor can be expensive, and it often makes sense to install a new floor on top of the existing one. Mark Commander of Molyneaux Tile Carpet Wood explains when this is acceptable and what factors to consider.

  • Do I have any worry about asbestoes in floor,my house has 2 layers older home and they have to come out and I'm worried about it am I over reacting so worried it is a small floor 9x10.

  • It's a good idea to have the layers tested by a lab. If there is, the asbestos should be removed by a professional asbestos abatement company. The testing process is very inexpensive and will give you piece of mind. If you are having the flooring removed and new installed by professionals, the flooring company you work with should provide you with the testing service and a list of asbestos abatement contractors.

  • Testing for asbestos is like testing for Radon. Once you are tested positive you are reported and damned until you pay up. I watched this done once. A boss (the licence holder) came with four mexicans. The boss did nothing. The other two worked for 3 hours. Total bill over $5000!!! Professional rip off. Same for Radon. You will NEVER sell your house until it is fixed.
